Most of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company's employees live and work in or near our company headquarters in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Climate & Location

A pleasant, seasonal climate creates a lush, colorful environment throughout the region. Residents enjoy many year-round outdoor activities. An hour's drive to the west puts you in the Blue Ridge Mountains. A few hours to the east, and you can take advantage of the state's coastal diversity, from Nags Head to Wilmington.

Arts & Entertainment

Various sponsors provide live music during the "Alive After Five" concerts on Thursday evenings, 4th Street Jazz and Blues concerts on Friday evenings and Summer on Trade concerts on Saturday evenings. The development of a "restaurant row" is underway downtown to expand dining and entertainment options. In addition, arts and entertainment options are plentiful in the nearby cities of Greensboro and Charlotte. Tanglewood Park offers everything from golf to horseback riding to paddle boating – plus a dazzling drive-through display of more than 1 million lights during the holiday season.

Sports

Winston-Salem offers professional baseball and college sports. Winston-Salem is the home of the Winston-Salem Warthogs baseball team, a minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. With Wake Forest University located in the city, locals enjoy Atlantic Coast Conference football and basketball. Winston-Salem State University brings Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association action to the area. Additionally, youth sports programs abound in Winston-Salem and the surrounding areas.

For the golf enthusiast, the PGA Tour makes a stop in the area during the Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic. The area also boasts a number of other golf courses that host play year-round.

Taking a short drive to nearby Charlotte expands sporting opportunities, including NASCAR racing, NFL football and NBA basketball.

Education

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system includes some of the highest-rated public schools in the state, including many innovative charter schools. There are a number of private schools as well. The community also benefits from the presence of Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem State University (part of the University of North Carolina [UNC] system), North Carolina School of the Arts (also part of UNC), Salem College and Forsyth Technical Community College.

If shopping is your bag, Hanes Mall in Winston-Salem has more than 200 stores located in more than 1.5 million square feet of shopping. For bargain-hunters, there are also a number of outlet malls in the region.
