MSA-Enforcement & Validity Cases

Cases are pending against R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company concerning the enforcement and validity of the Master Settlement Agreement (MSA). Litigation challenging the validity of the MSA, including claims that the MSA violates antitrust laws, has not been successful.

Our Viewpoint

• R.J. Reynolds abides by the letter and spirit of the MSA.
• To the extent the company has had differences of opinion concerning interpretation of certain MSA provisions, those differences have been honest and in good faith.
• We will work with the state attorneys general to ensure that the MSA works, and that we achieve the shared goal of reducing underage smoking.
