Public Health Information
Addressing the issues in an open and objective manner
Cigarette smoking is a leading cause of preventable deaths in the United States. Cigarette smoking significantly increases the risk of developing lung cancer, heart disease, chronic bronchitis, emphysema and other serious diseases and adverse health conditions. No tobacco product has been shown to be safe and without risks, and quitting tobacco use significantly reduces the risk for serious diseases. The health risks associated with cigarettes are significantly greater than those associated with the use of smoke-free tobacco and nicotine products.
Governments, public health officials, tobacco manufacturers and others can play a role in providing adult tobacco consumers with accurate information about the various health risks and comparative risks associated with the use of different tobacco and nicotine products.
Tobacco Product Ingredients
Achieving the desired taste with minimum additives
R.J. Reynolds use of product ingredients is guided by the principle of achieving the desired taste characteristics by using the minimum amount of additives. R.J. Reynolds scientifically evaluates all proposed product ingredients and does not – and will not – use any ingredient if scientific evaluations indicate that it will increase the inherent toxicity of the tobacco product.
Applying Rigorous Scientific Techniques to Tobacco Product Harm Reduction Efforts
The commitment of R.J. Reynolds to harm reduction is stated clearly in our Guiding Principles and Beliefs: decreasing the health risks and harm directly associated with the use of tobacco products is in everyone’s best interest.
Due to the breadth and depth of our research and development infrastructure, R.J. Reynolds continues to take the lead in applying rigorous scientific techniques to tobacco product harm reduction efforts.
